Under the patronage of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Portland, St. Dominic Academy is a Catholic co-educational PK – 12 school. Central to the mission of St. Dom’s is the formation of the whole person in the image of Jesus Christ, our Lord and God. From our youngest learners to those graduating from high school, our students are called to deepen their relationship with God and each other through integration of the Dominican pillars of Prayer, Study, Community, and Service in every aspect of school life. Theology classes, weekly Masses, yearly retreats, community building activities, and service to the community form the foundation for educating our students in Veritas Vitae, the True of Life.
School Chaplain
Nurturing the Sacramental life of St. Dominic Academy is the ministry of our Chaplain, Fr. Divine Fossoh. A native of Cameroon, Africa, he offers weekly Masses at our Lewiston and Auburn campuses, aids in the planning and hosting of yearly retreats for grades 6 - 12 students, offers confession and classroom instruction. An avid soccer player, he might also be found participating in team practices.
Campus Ministry
Composed of the School Chaplain, the Director of Campus Ministry, the Assistant Chaplain team, and members of the retreat team, St. Dominic Academy Campus Ministry is dedicated to the faith development of all students helping them to live out the Dominican charism of Veritas Vitae, the Truth of Life, in their daily lives. Theology classes, school masses, retreats, and service-learning opportunities give students the chance to be a part of Christ’s love in action. The St. Mary’s Chapel at the Auburn campus and the Rivier Adoration Chapel at the Lewiston campus provide our students and staff a sacred space to spend time with the Lord.
Assistant Chaplains
Assistant Chaplains are Christian Sophomores-Seniors who, through their leadership and example and in close collaboration with the Campus Minister, work to strengthen and maintain a strong Catholic life at Saint Dominic Academy. Assistant Chaplains focus on liturgy and spirituality, pastoral ministry, and community service. In addition to ministry in these areas, Assistant Chaplains strive to build up and nurture the Catholic life and mission of Saint Dominic Academy through their words and actions both on and off campus.
Retreats
Retreats are an integral part of a Catholic school's faith formation program. Every St. Dom’s student, from Pre-Kindergarten to 11th grade, experiences a day retreat. 12th grade students are provided an overnight retreat, providing additional opportunities to reflect on their lives thus far and what awaits them beyond high school. Retreats include a variety of activities that address the social, emotional, and spiritual dimensions of who we are as children of God.
Theology Classes
All St. Dom’s students have Theology courses as part of their academic schedule. These classes survey the richness of our Judeo-Christian Faith, explore the deepest questions of the human mind and heart, and teach us our role in caring for each other. While not all St. Dom’s students are Catholic, all benefit from learning the tenants of Jesus’ teachings as has been handed down through Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition.
