In January, we unveiled our Strategic Plan. The Plan took a year and a half to complete and required a dedicated effort by many members of our school community. Through this thoughtful and thorough process, we were able to define our goals into six main areas of focus for the next three years. The plan outlines our courses of action and the resources needed to achieve those goals.

Below are highlights of our achievements thus far. The complete Strategic Plan lists the strategies, action steps, and responsible party for each goal.   

 

Goal 1: Promoting Our Catholic Identity

  • We are in the progress of developing a plan to discover, record, and promote the stories of alumni and current students.
  • We’ve given all of our students the opportunity to nurture their spiritual selves through retreats.
  • We have incorporated group morning prayer at both campuses.
  • Auburn Assistant Chaplains lead Morning Prayer with Magnificat for daily intercessions and prayers. 
  • We begin our faculty, staff, board and other miscellaneous meetings with a Prayer to Saint Dominic.
  • A faculty and staff retreat is scheduled for August.
  • Monthly staff meetings include My Catholic Faith discussions.
  • We explored the feasibility of funding a Campus Minister position to collaborate with the Chaplin in carrying out the Campus Ministry. Our Finance Department discovered this is not feasible at this time.
  • Through newsletters and social media, we invite families to pray with us and attend liturgies and special programs.
  • Fr. Seamus is connecting students and families with the resources they need to deepen their faith by receiving the sacraments.

  

Goal 2: Enhance Teaching and Learning

  • In the spring we hosted a site visit for members of the Commission of Independent Schools (CIS) of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) to pursue accreditation. They spoke with faculty, staff, and board members.
  • We hosted a Parents Information Night where families could ask NEASC members about the accreditation process.
  • We have been accepted into candidacy for accreditation by NEASC-CIS.
  • We are currently forming a Professional Development Team to ensure teachers are highly qualified.
  • Expanding the scope of the Academic Committee in light of the accreditation process.  We recommend blending the Academic Committee with the NEASC-CIS Committee.
  • We investigated best practices and programs to challenge students. As a result, we implemented STREAM initiatives and blended learning.  Plans are in place for team teaching this fall. 

 

Goal 3: Foster Student Life

  • We are in the process of developing and training for a Virtues-Based Restorative Discipline policy to nurture a sense of community and the social, emotional, and collaborative needs of students. 
  • We are promoting the moral and ethical use of social networking and personal technology through our Media and Communications class at the Auburn campus.  Digital Citizenship was a component of that class.
  • We have Technology Integrators at both campuses to help students and staff with the proper use of technology.
  • Create an environment when students feel like they belong.  Through our Buddy program, we connect students at all levels and of the school.  This also provides an opportunity for peer mentoring.
  • We held our first Winter Carnival to engage families and foster community.  Look for our Corn Hole Tournament this fall!
  • We hold student social activities on and off campus.
  • We are in the process of planning a summit to explore and identify activities, programs, and services to provide healthy cultural, spiritual, and recreational opportunities.
  • We are in the process of establishing a Community Service Exploratory Committee to review and evaluate community service efforts and requirements. Co-chairs for this committee have been named.  

 

Goal 4: Secure Long-Term Sustainability of Saint Dominic Academy

  • We’ve developed a process to capture data from families who withdraw or who are considering withdrawing.
  • We are continually researching innovative methodologies and learning strategies. 
  • Our professional development funding has been increased for this year’s budget.
  • We are in the process of developing relationships with area businesses, colleges, hospitals, real estate agencies.  We are compiling a list of businesses to visit to promote the Academy.  We have started to distribute marketing materials to these businesses.
  • Attending Chamber of Commerce events and Businesses to Business Trade Show to promote St. Dom’s to the business community.
  • We created a committee to plan our 75th Anniversary.  This event was held last fall.
  • We’ve developed additional events to foster community such as our Winter Carnival and upcoming Corn Hole Tournament.
  • We are currently researching different tuition models.
  • We’ve implemented a salary scale based on years of experience to help attract and retain qualified teachers. 
  • We offer additional compensation for advanced degrees. 

 

Goal 5: Improve Communications with Families

  • We ensure communication with parents throughout the year.
  • We sent communication to parents regarding the new school year.
  • We sent “welcome packets” to new students
  • We will hold new family orientation and BBQ this August
  • We are planning a “State of the School” address.
  • We follow up with new families via personal phone call one month after the start of the new school year.
  • We’ve revamped the newsletter to keep the articles shorter to quickly convey important information and added a “dates at a glance” section as an easy reference guide for busy families.
  • We send emails and parent alerts, as warranted. 
  • We’ve created a more robust social media presence.

 

 Goal 6: Explore Future Possibilities

  • We are in the process of forming a Capital Project Task Group (CPTG) reporting to the Finance Committee, to oversee the consideration, design, and construction of a comprehensive list of Board-approved capital projects.
  • We are expanding our athletic fields.  Work on a new field began last summer and is expected to be ready for use by spring. This expansion will allow teams to practice together at the Auburn campus and gives us the capability to host tournaments in one location.
